Research, resilience, and human experience guide the design. As a result, the museum presents scientific achievements through personal stories and immersive exhibits. The space also celebrates the organization’s founders and continuing mission. Therefore, visitors encounter both its history and its ongoing commitment to healthcare.
An Interactive History
A 40-foot motion-activated media wall guides visitors through decades of medical innovation. As visitors move through the gallery, the digital content reveals important people, products, and milestones.
Sculptural display cases present medical artifacts throughout the space. In addition, their pill-shaped forms reference the museum’s connection to healthcare. Reflective columns bring movement and depth to the gallery. Meanwhile, their mirrored surfaces connect exhibits with views of the surrounding campus.
A glowing skylight creates the museum’s central architectural feature. Moreover, its abstract shape references the heart valve and the client’s scientific legacy.
Together, these elements create an environment that feels both clinical and contemplative.

Celebrating Patients

The Patients Hall of Fame recognizes individual journeys of strength and recovery. Likewise, the Champions for Life Wall celebrates the broader community behind those stories.

Beyond the Traditional Gallery
An Outdoor Amphitheater
The museum extends beyond its interior walls into the surrounding courtyard. Outside, a sculptural wood installation combines planting, circulation, and seating.
Raised platforms give staff and visitors places to gather, rest, and reflect. In addition, the installation functions as an outdoor amphitheater with the museum as its stage. A world map graphic spreads across the courtyard paving. Therefore, the exterior space connects the museum’s stories with the organization’s global impact.
Transforming an Existing Space
The design team transformed an existing core and shell through bold architectural interventions. Curved ceilings, textured walls, and mirrored surfaces give the museum a distinct identity.
Moreover, expansive glazing connects the exhibits with the campus outside. The transparent façade also allows the museum to illuminate the courtyard after dark.
