We are excited to announce that AVA Arts District has been selected as a Finalist in the Housing category for THE PLAN Award 2025, joining 4th & Hewitt, also recognized as a Finalist in the Office & Business category. Presented by THE PLAN, a leading international architecture publication, these awards celebrate design excellence and innovation worldwide. Both projects have already earned significant accolades recently, highlighting their impact on the evolving landscape of urban living and workplace environments.
Located on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles, AVA is a mixed-use community that redefines creative urban living. Drawing inspiration from the neighborhood’s legacy of adaptive reuse and street art, the project offers a vibrant base for a diverse population of artists and makers. Its design merges density, flexibility, and material authenticity into a cohesive, community-driven environment rooted in the spirit of LA’s Arts District.
The seven-story structure delivers 475 live/work units, with 20% designed for light industrial use, each offering at least 150 square feet of dedicated workspace. Ground-floor retail, communal spaces, and an open atrium lobby foster connection and cultural exchange. Informed by local creative practices, the project integrates large-scale murals, reclaimed industrial materials, and commissioned public artworks—positioning AVA as both a place to live and a platform for artistic expression.
We are honored to have AVA recognized among this year’s finalists for THE PLAN Award and excited to see its continued impact as a creative and sustainable urban hub. In recent months, AVA has earned a Merit Award for AIA LA Residential Architecture, and been named a Finalist in the GRAY Awards. These accolades underscore the project’s testament to the district’s vibrant creative spirit and evolving urban fabric.
