AVA LA Arts District Wins GRAY Awards
AVA Arts District was recently honored as a finalist in the 8th Annual GRAY Awards, in the Mixed-Use Development Breakout category.
AVA Arts District is the result of an inaugural collaboration with AvalonBay Communities. Replacing a former cold storage warehouse, the project responds to the district’s transformation from an industrial enclave into a vibrant cultural destination. As artists repurposed warehouses into studios, galleries, and murals, the neighborhood’s creative expression shifted from hidden to celebrated—informing the project’s architectural approach.
The project delivers 475 live/work units, 20% designed for light industrial uses within Type I construction, each featuring at least 150 square feet of dedicated workspace. Ground-floor retail and communal spaces foster engagement, while the atrium lobby serves as the heart of the creative community, offering co-working, gallery displays, and gathering spaces.
Thank you to GRAY MAGAZINE, as well as our collaborators AvalonBay Communities, AC Martin, EGG Office, Brian Orter Lighting Design, LLC (BOLD), Priscilla C. Witte, and RIOS. Your partnership made this recognition possible.
