Housing as Part of the City
The jury praised AVA Arts District’s approach to dense urban living. Specifically, the project connects housing, public space, and community life. Live/work homes support artists, makers, and other creative residents. Meanwhile, shared amenities encourage interaction throughout the development.
In addition, ground-floor retail connects the project with the surrounding streets. Courtyards and landscaped paths also invite outdoor activity. Therefore, private homes maintain a strong relationship with the public realm. Ultimately, AVA Arts District makes housing an active part of the city.
OFFICEUNTITLED celebrates the project’s place among this year’s recipients. Furthermore, the award honors its architectural rigor and urban responsibility.
